No animal was mistreated or injured during the shooting of these photographs.
A zonkey, or a zedonk, is half donkey, half zebra, which could make it pretty wild. This one has more of its zebra instincts than anything else.
Equines in captivity regularly need their hooves trimmed or they can suffer going lame or having their stance permanently disfigured. Think major ingrown toenails on humans.
This zonkey wanted no part of a clipping and it took 4 men (and 4 horse tranquilizers) to accomplish the task. It has a powerful kick and the farrier's job at times seemed more like that of a bomb diffuser. We had no idea when the zonkey would start kicking wildly and violently. In the end, no one was hurt and the zonkey was fine and sporting some damned sexy hooves when we were through.
